Workshop 3: 30/05/26 DRAWING IN SITU

£28.00

Sketchbook Journaling with Lorraine Berkshire-Roe -

Venue: The Cluster, Co-working space, 3-5 Middle Way, Summertown, Oxford, OX2 7LH

Dates: Saturday 30th May 2026

Time: 10am-12pm

Cost: £28

This is the third workshop of eight in Chapter 4 of my Sketchbook Journal Workshops.

8 spaces

You will be exploring the art of drawing in-situ by making sketches of the event space, the Cluster. In-situ drawing is a really wonderful way of achieving some mindfulness: when you are drawing in an environment, it takes all your concentration. Focussing on capturing a view really does make the rest of the world disappear for a short while.

You will start off making some quick sketching, ending with a longer sketch. You will use different media to discover which are the best ones, depending on the time you have for the sketches.

The will be resources and time to add notes, information and a small photo to the page afterwards to make a complete record of your 2 hours spent at the Cluster co-working space.

A sketchbook journal is a place to explore creativity and record the world around you.

During the sessions there will be a short talk on the basics of keeping a sketchbook journal: What is the best sort of book? Which materials can I use? What can I put in my book?

The following materials will be provided for use during the sessions: drawing pencils, coloured pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, scissors, glue sticks, tape, water colour paint sets, paintbrushes, a variety of pens such as fine liners, paint markers, any materials required.

You are welcome to bring your own sketchbook to the workshops, but something with thicker paper than standard printer paper is recommended because you will be drawing on both sides.

There will be sketchbooks available to purchase for £6 if needed . They are A5 in size with pages of thick cartridge paper and some materials can be purchased if you wish to continue sketching at home. Details of this would be provided if required.

Please note: The sessions will be held in the Cluster building, which is an old building and the outdoor area does have old tiles. There are toilets for your use, but they are not accessible toilets. Most sessions will be held on the first floor of the building which is accessible via a dog-leg staircase (sort of like a spiral stair case but not curved). The in-situ lesson will be in the whole building so is more accessible but not for a wheel chair.

There are regular buses from town and beyond, and there are bike park racks along Banbury Road in Summertown, and on South Parade. There are some 3 hour parking spaces along Middle Way though these are subject to availability on the day. Summertown Car Park on Diamond Place off Banbury Road, Summertown, OX2 7BY is a pay and display car park nearby.

Meet Point Coffee has a cafe on site at 3-5 Middle Way and it will be possible to buy a hot drink etc at the start or at short break in the middle. TBH no one will stop you going to buy one whenever you need after I have delivered the lesson detail talk at the start of each session.
